Description
Named after the wolf in Norse mythology who endlessly chases the moon across the night sky, this Porphyry pendant felt like an obvious fit. The pale feldspar inclusions caught inside the dark stone look exactly like the moon being swallowed by Hati, which is the whole myth right there in the rock.
Stone: Porphyry
Wire: Oxidised copper
About Porphyry
- Porphyry is defined by its large crystals (in this case feldspar) suspended inside a finer grained matrix, which is what gives it that distinctive spotted appearance.
- It was historically quarried by the Romans and considered one of the most precious stones in the ancient world, used almost exclusively for emperors and royalty.
- Each piece is completely unique because the size, shape, and placement of the feldspar inclusions is never the same twice.
